My mother says I was born at a very early age, and the first word out of my
mouth back in '47 was Fiero..........little did we know what that meant then.
I
have many interests. Activity wise, I play in multiple softball leagues,
racquetball leagues, tennis leagues, and I love to work in and outside of the
house.
Perhaps my biggest passion is the Fiero. Over 13 years ago, my second son
was
approaching his 16th birthday. So it was car shopping time on a limited
budget.
I picked a black '84 Fiero 4-speed because I liked the safety afforded by
the
space-frame, and really liked the idea that it only had two seats. Less
bodies
in a car usually means less trouble gotten into at that age. Paid $1,200
for it
and put in about another $400 and four months sorting it out. When it came
time
to hand it over I immediately went into Fiero Withdrawal. I'm sure I don't
need
to explain. So I went out and found myself an '86SE, gold, 4-speed with
about
34K. Sorted it out and cleaned her up real good and was off to the shows
for
some competition. An early parts source for me was IRM, where I found out
about
the new effort underway to form a Fiero club. Missed the first preliminary
meeting, but made the next when the club was born and Bob Schlag elected as its
first president. In the past years I have put in extensive time as
Activities Director
(only had one then) and as Membership Director, and have always worked closely
with the Club.
Currently, I own two show cars. My favorite is my '88 GT T-Top,
white, tan
leather interior, gold wheels, 5-speed with about 26k on its clock. My
second
Fiero in a maroon '86 GT with grey suede leather interior, automatic, sunroof
and about 32k on its clock. Both cars are mint. My sickness doesn't
stop
there. I have one of the biggest Fiero literature collections in the
country.
And one of the biggest Fiero toy collections as well............then there are
the Fiero parts and pieces throughout the premises. My second son has had
nuttin but Fieros. Currently he has an 86GT and an 87GT.........which we
just
converted to a notchback..........go figure. My daughter Salena, is the
exiting
Membership Director and also has owned nuttin but Fieros. I started her
with an
'87 Coupe, 4 cylinder, automatic and after about a year she bought an '87 GT
from the Gilberts. About a year after that she bought another '87GT from
Jeff
Deday with a low 52k on it. She has had that car for several years now, and
had two for quite awhile. My oldest son had
an 88
Formula till the stork dropped
a bundle on his doorstep.
Tis indeed a family affair.
